Rebecca Mathis

Rebecca Sue Mathis, 81, passed away on Friday, October 17, 2025, at her home in Travelers Rest SC.

Born in Tuckasegee, NC, she was a daughter of the late Christine Moses and Curtis Watson In addition to her parents, Rebecca was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Jamie Mathis and a son, James (Alex) Mathis.

She attended Tuckasegee Elementary School and Cullowhee High School. Rebecca was a homemaker for her family and a member of Grace Outreach Ministries in Easley, SC. She enjoyed spending time with her family, watching her favorite shows, and listening to singing. She will be remembered for her loving spirit, kindness, the ability to to be happy in any circumstance and an excellent memory.

She is survived by two daughters, Pamela Sue Mathis Grady), and Sandra White (Scott); a son, Eddie Mathis; four grand-children, Darrin Mathis (Christy), Jason Lambert (Bailey), Sage Mathis, and Gareth Mathis (Krista); three great-grand-children, Kaydance Mathis, Kayley Mathis, and Jaxon Lambert, and two sisters, Ruby Grigsby and Josephine Robbins.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services in Sylva N.C. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Promised Land Baptist Church Cemetery in Tuckasegee, NC .
