Rebecca Pilgreen Obituary

Rebecca Hardin Pilgreen, formerly of Calhoun City, MS, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on June 1, 2025.

Rebecca was born on March 1, 1932, in Loyd, MS. She was a graduate of Vardaman High School and attended Draughn's School of Business in Memphis, TN. She married Alvis Chester Pilgreen in 1950, and they were happily married until his death in 2001. She enjoyed a career as a church secretary, serving First Baptist Calhoun City, First Baptist Cleveland, and First Baptist Greenwood.

She loved to cook and always had a chocolate pudding ready for her granddaughters and one of her famous Angel Food cakes for her great-grandsons. She was a prolific seamstress making most of her daughters' and granddaughters' clothes growing up. In her later years she enjoyed making dresses and shorts for children in orphanages in Central America and gifted countless handmade quilts to loved ones. She patiently passed all these skills along to her daughters and granddaughters. Her spirit of service will be remembered fondly by all who knew her. She was steadfast and patient in her love and friendship.

Rebecca is preceded in death by her husband, A. C. Pilgreen, her sister, Dorothy Hardin Crocker, and her brother, Hugh "Bud" Hardin. She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Pilgreen and Cathy Davis (Jeff); granddaughters, Natalie Davis (Mike) and Emily Jones; two great-grandsons, Michael Davis and Henry Davis; brother, Curtis H. Hardin; sisters, Billye Hardin and Beverly Hardin Bridwell; sister-in-law, Rebecca Ashby Hardin.

The family would like to offer their gratitude to the staff of The Blake in Ridgeland, MS, Tamara Barbaro, and Loretta Powell for their loving care of Rebecca.

A graveside service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, June 7, at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Calhoun City. Visitation will follow at 11 am at First Baptist Calhoun City. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the A.C. Pilgreen Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Mississippi State University Foundation (662.325.7000) or to a charity of your choice.

We lived in Greenwood years ago and your mom and dad did. She was always a sweet sweet lady, with a smile on her face to encourage those of us with young children. I think this would have been around 1973-78. Cherish those wonderful memories. Jerrell and Pat Dearman. Pontotoc, Ms
