Reece Thibault Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sanderson Funeral Service - Middlebury on Oct. 1, 2025.
Reece Thibault is a modern day renaissance man. Born Sept 30, 2007 he was lost to us too soon. At only 17 years old, he passed from this life on July 17, 2025. He loved football and lacrosse until his knee refused to cooperate. It was not uncommon to find him tinkering on his car and motorcycle with classic rock thumping in the background. He found equal pleasure in traveling to Europe or hosting international guests. Cooking was his great joy, but his skills did not end there. His guitar and piano enriched his life and gave additional voice to the artist within. As an outdoorsman and hunter, he loved nature whether it was hiking, camping or swimming. Reece had the biggest heart, especially for animals. He stood against cruelty to any animals, even if they were only ants. His perfect weekend would include catching the latest Marvel movie with his father. Always spontaneous and ready for adventure, he would jump at the chance for a last minute concert with friends or rush off to Boston for the day to "explore." His ultimate dream involved polishing up his significant and prodigious culinary skills and taking them on tour in Europe. Reece did what many thought was impossible; he made the mullet cool again.
Reece is survived by his mother, Casey Lewis (Volk) and his father, Joshua Thibault; his step-parents, Chad Volk and Theresa Wootton; as well as three sisters, Mykenzie Thibault, Courtney Volk, and Caitlin Volk, and three brothers, Isaac Sylvester, Logan Lewis and Chandler Volk. Also surviving him are his grandparents, James and Donna Lewis, Norma Thibault, and Criss Sheridan, along with aunts and uncles, Megan Thibault, Ryan Lewis, Cody Lewis, Robert Sheridan, Joseph Sheridan, Shelby Sheridan, and Shea Sheridan. He also leaves behind his best friends, Nathan Ellis, Thomas Given and David Forster, and many more. He was preceded in death by grandfathers, Peter Thibault and William Sheridan.
Calling hours will be from 4 pm to 7pm at Sanderson Funeral Home in Middlebury on Thursday, July 31st. A memorial service celebrating Reece's life will be Friday, August 1st, at the Congregational Church in Middlebury at 1:00 PM. Because a large crowd is expected and parking is limited near the church, shuttle service will be provided from Middlebury High School. A reception will be hosted for the family at Atwater Dining Hall on Middlebury College Campus after the memorial service. At a date still to be determined, his ashes will be scattered surrounded by family and friends at Silver Lake.
A GoFundMe account has been set up to lighten the burden on the family as they navigate this difficult time. Visit www.gofundme.com and search Reece Thibault. Funds donated beyond funeral related costs will be donated to Journey True North to create a counseling scholarship to serve teens, whether they are in crisis or simply need a safe person to talk to. It will be called the Reece Thibault Scholarship.
