I can't begin to express my love and thanks to Dick Callister, as his influence and trust in me has affect me throughout my entire life, including the 15 years I spent as a single mother! Dick was our Bishop in La Canada while my father served as the Stake President. During the summers of my last two years of high school, Dick would hire me to work at Callister and Callister (which included his father Reed, brothers Doug and Tad), culminating in a full time position after spending 2 years at BYU. I remember calling "Grandfather" as he needed his counsel and assistance while serving as Bishop, as well as the many clients who adored him. It was an amazing introduction to law and justice which I have continually sought.
Now over 50 years, 6 children, and many life events from California, Utah, Oklahoma, Colorado, Nebraska, Arizona, St. Louis, and now Idaho, my career in law as a Paralegal has not only allowed me to support my family, but it has been extremely fulfilling. However, I'll never forget Dick constantly telling everyone we met that I was the "best secretary" he ever had! I enjoy the honor and respect in my field, working with two other attorneys (who remind me of Dick and Doug) as we "ride into the sunset" of our careers together doing work that really makes a difference!
Dick was also an amazing example to the youth, including my younger brother, and we will always be grateful to him for his desire to relate to, serve, bless and uplift the youth who were surrounded him. While serving as Branch President when I was in the MTC preparing to serve my mission as a Senior Sister, I remember meeting Dick and his introduction to a group of young missionaries in his Branch that were bound for Russia. In his California accented Russian, he had them laughing, crying, and hanging on his every word. Even then, he told them I was "the best" secretary he'd ever had. It was obvious that the love they had for him was almost as strong as his love for them, and it was a wonderful last memory of my time with him.
Through the years, the Callister family has been a continual blessing to my family, but I will always treasure the years I spent in that family law firm with the ethics and honor that were ever present, and have held that as a standard for every firm with whom I have since associated.
His daughter Lucy, father Reed, mother Norinne, brother David, sister Paula, and Grandfather LeGrand Richards, welcomed him home with open arms, as well as my own mother and father, whose love for him was never ending. He was my Bishop, my mentor, and my friend, whose life was well lived and has now returned with honor...until we meet again.

When I lived in Glendale from 1966-1969, DIck and the entire Callister family were folklore not only in the LDS Church but at Glendale High School and the community at large where the family had a law practice. DIck was my young men's leader where he served with example and devotion. He was a mentor who inspired me to become an attorney , to live the LDS precepts , prepare to serve a mission which I did in France and to marry within the faith. One activity which he sponsored was career night which included an array of possible occupations and showcased the Callister and Callister law offices. Much teaching and encouragement was done in informal settings and activities . Hard to believe that I just retired. He was like a friend to my family and I . He brings great experience and talents to his next assignments.

We served together in the Kyiv Ukraine temple and were neighbors across the hall. During this past year we were almost neighbors again, most Mondays when he was available, I stopped in to visit both he and Lynn. We had some wonderful, fun, visits, about Ukraine and life. Dick was such a positive influence on all of us. I dropped in to lift him in his trials and ALWAYS left being lifted by the sweet spirit of both he and Lynn. I will truly miss him, but look forward to seeing him again!

Dick Callister - Senator Orrin Hatch - Bill Freeze...Lunch at LaJolla Goves in Provo / January 13, 2018

Brother Richard Callister was one of the great men I known in my life. He has been sick with cancer for some time and in mid-January I arranged to have lunch with him and his old BYU college roommate Senator Orrin Hatch. We met with our wives and also Janice Kapp Perry, who is a close friend to both of the men. We had a wonderful lunch and the two of them exchanged old stories. Senator Hatch on more than one occasion had told me the great influence that Dick Callister had on him when he first came to BYU from Pittsburg. He said that whenever there was a question of what they should dothat Brother Callister always lead him in the right direction. Dick Callister was a senior partner in a powerhouse LA law firm for many years and served as a LDS Bishop there for 10 years in a ward with 800 people. Dick later served as attorney for the Osmond family and he always had wonderful things to say about George and Olive Osmond and the rest of the family. He later became a producer for the higher successful Movie of the Week and finally settled in Provo, Utah over 30 years ago. I became closely associated with him when I served as a Bishop of the BYU 55th Ward at Brigham Young University around 2000.where he served as my first counselor. Whenever I was unsure about something or didnt know what to do I would always ask him and he would advise me on my options or what the proper procedure should be. The young adults in our ward loved and respected him and he taught them the principle of loyalty and that its not where you serve, but how you serve. Dick was a good athlete and even at age 65 he could ice skate better than the young people in our ward when we would go to Seven Peaks for a ward social. You could often see him on his bike riding down the Provo Canyon Trail and he would be going full speed. Dick believed in doing things right. or as he would say Top Cabin. He showed me courage during his illness and was not afraid to diebecause he had great faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I will miss him and his genuine example of charity to his family, friends and all people! #DickCallister,#OrrinHatch, #BillFreeze, #BYURoommates, #LaLaw, #Byu55ward, #LegrandRichards

We are so grateful that we had a few precious moments with Dick earlier this month. He was lucid, witty, optimistic about his future in the next life and at peace. He was a good man!
Lynn, we are out of town and will not be able to attend the funeral. May the Lord bless you and all your family this coming week and always.

Dick Callister was the nicest, most generous man. I grew up with his son Greg and have fond memories of Dick driving around in his gold Corvette at top speed throwing caution to the wind. Dick had a great sense of humor and a passion for making movies. He will be missed. My sincere condolences to the Callister family.
