Refugio V. Salinas

Refugio Salinas, affectionately known as Cuco, was born on July 4, 1946 in Alice, Texas. He passed away peacefully on June 23, 2023, in Dayton, Tennessee, where he resided. Cuco was a humble individual who, despite never having been formally employed, found joy and fulfillment in the simple pleasures of life. He was a funny soul, always ready with a joke or a good story, and his sense of humor brought joy and laughter to those around him. He was a loving father and brother, who took great pride in his family.
Cuco was an inspiring figure who always encouraged his children to strive for the best. He was widowed from his beloved wife, Cecilia Salinas, who preceded him in death, along with his parents, Francisca and Catarino Salinas, and his brothers, Guadalupe and sons, Reynaldo and Roberto Salinas. Refugio is survived by his children, Duvigen, Margarita, Esmeralda, San Juanita (Janie), Raúl, Rogelio, and Ramiro; his brother, Ray; sister, Elida; and 23 cherished grandchildren.
Cuco found solace and joy in his hobbies. He enjoyed doing word searches, playing solitaire, and playing other games. He was also known for his love for drinking and smoking. Throughout his life, he resided in Florida, Texas, and Dalton, Georgia, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he met. As a devout Catholic, he lived by the verse, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13), a testament to his enduring spirit and love of life.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at 8:00am at Primera Iglesia Bautista, Mathis, Texas. The Funeral Service will follow at 11:00am, with Pastor Eric Tarver officiating. Interment will be at Descanso Eterno Cemeterey II.
Pallbears will be Raymundo Cruz, Clemente Cruz, Ray Salinas, David Rodríguez, Joe Davila, and Manuel Ramos lll.
