Reginald Pattey Obituary

Reginald R Pattey, 92, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026 at Trillium Place. He was born in Philadelphia to the late Reginald E. Pattey and Dorothy (Wigton) Pattey.

Reg is survived by his wife, Jane (Dale) Pattey, with whom he celebrated 66 years of marriage on October 24. He is also survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Pattey, Lititz; son, Philip Patey and daughter-in-law Deborah Van Slyke, Nashville, TN; grandsons Kellon and Curtis Patey, Philadelphia; brother, Philip W. Pattey, and a niece and two nephews, all of the Eastern Shore of Maryland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothy Anne Riley and Virginia Pattey.

Reg grew up in Philadelphia and graduated from Yeadon High School in 1951 where he was a star baseball player. He was offered a minor league pitching contract which he turned down to attend college. Reg was a proud graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, Long Island, N.Y. where he studied celestial navigation.

Reg and Jane married on October 24, 1959 in Ocean City, Maryland, her hometown and the place they met after one of his aunts declared that “Reggie needs to meet a nice girl.”

After serving in the U.S. Navy, Reg took a job at RCA where he worked for many years before co-founding Burle Industries in 1987. Late in his career, Reg also served on the Executive Board of Christiana Cabinetry.

Outside of work, Reg served 28 years as a lead volunteer for the American Red Cross, winning a national award for his tireless efforts. Reg loved his family, golf, model railroading, supporting his son’s and grandsons’ sporting events and his daughter’s theatrical endeavors, subscribing to the Baltimore Symphony, boating, music, travels throughout the US and abroad, and the family’s dogs. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lancaster, and enjoyed singing in the choir there for many years.

Reg had a long and full life, and although the last year was medically challenging, he received compassionate care from staff at Trillium and LGH.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Reg’s Memorial Service at the Eagle Commons Auditorium of Woodcrest Villa, 2001 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster PA, 17601 on Saturday, March 14 at 11:00 AM. There will be a time of visitation with the family from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may send memorial contributions to either of his favorite causes, the American Red Cross at redcross.org or the Nature Conservancy at preserve.nature.org.
