Reginald Peters Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Resthaven Funeral Home - Aransas Pass on Mar. 11, 2026.
Reginald Dennis Peters, 91, passed away on March 11, 2026, in Rockport.

Reg was born on October 16, 1934, in Hitchita, Oklahoma. At the age of 17, he joined the United States Air Force, proudly serving his country for more than a decade. His final station brought him to Marquette, where he met the love of his life, Kay J. Kent.

Reg and Kay both worked at Northern Michigan University for more than twenty years. Reg was exceedingly proud of his career as a sports trainer. Among the highlights of his career were being selected to serve as a trainer for the 1983 Pan American Games in Venezuela and the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. In recognition of his contributions to athletics, he was inducted into the Northern Michigan University Hall of Fame in 1988.

Following their retirement from Northern Michigan University, Reg and Kay moved south to be closer to their son Greg and their grandsons.

Reg was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kay Peters, and his son, Greg Lewis Peters. He is survived by his grandsons, Grey Wilder Peters and Magnus J. Peters; his daughter-in-law, Saundra Scarce; and his sister-in-law, Sharon Strong.

The family wishes to give special thanks to Jane LaPlant "Nurse Jane" and Mike Holoholokulani and the many nurses and caregivers at Rockport Nursing Home for their excellent care of Reg.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
