Reinhold Ruegner
1931 - 2025
- Reinhold Wilhelm Ruegner, loving husband, father (of 8), grandfather (of 22), great grandfather (of 26), great- great grandfather (of 5) passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on September 30, 2025. Reinhold was born the seventh of eight children to Gottlob and Lina Dorothea Schonhardt Ruegner in Feuerbach, Stuttgart, Germany, on October 4, 1931. He grew up in war-torn Germany under very challenging circumstances and yet was always optimistic and hopeful. In 1953, he married Charlotte (Carla) Marie Therese Limpert and the following year they immigrated to the United States and as faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, settled in Salt Lake City. A month and a half later, their first son was born. And, 10 months after arriving, Reinhold was drafted and served two years in the Army. He trained as a machinist in Germany and carried on that trade in the U.S. while attending the University of Utah which took him seven years and four children. He then became a beloved teacher of 6th and then 4th grades at Crestview Elementary School, where he taught for 28 years.
Summers found him gardening and working for the US Forest Service. Winters found him skiing (until that age of 85), mentoring in various church responsibilities, and square dancing. After Carla's death, he met and married Ornona (Noni) Palmer and together they finished rearing his family, traveled the world, taught English in China, and served both as inner-city missionaries and in the Salt Lake Temple for 14 years. Reinhold loved nature, hiking, camping, photographing wild flowers, reading and playing chess.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Noni, and his children: Johannes (Nancy), Roland (Janice), Wolfgang (Sharon), Linda (Gin), Sue Ann (Julie) and Paul (Aimee). He is preceded in death by his first wife, Carla, his sons, Martin and Peter, and his grandson, Alex.
