We are saddened to announce that René López died peacefully on March 18, 2026, in Edgewood, NM. René was born on April 27th, 1933, in Vilcún, Chile and was raised and went to high school in Temuco, Chile. Later, he attended the University of Chile in Santiago.
He immigrated to the United States in the early 1960s, and settled in Albuquerque, NM. He was immediately hired at Pat Goodwin's Office Equipment, where he worked for over 35 years, and then retired. He had a very close bond with Pat Goodwin and the Goodwins, and always considered them extended family. He enjoyed spending as much time as he could with his beloved daughter, Lisa.
René was very proud to have achieved his US Citizenship in the mid 1960s. He spoke Spanish, English and French fluently, and was co-founder of the Albuquerque French group "Le Groupe Français" in 1985. He was also very involved in the Albuquerque Spanish group. René loved a good party and made many friends through these organizations. The local PBS station affiliate KNME was another organization where René volunteered for many years.
René loved going to the opera, listening to classical and symphony orchestra music, attending plays, and the arts. He enjoyed reading books, especially world history. His favorite place to travel to was Europe, especially France. Family, friends and neighbors admired and were always aware of Rene's headstrong personality and fighting spirit. He is now at home with our Lord Jesus Christ!
He is preceded in death by his sister Graciela, of New York City, in February of 2024.
He is survived by his daughter Lisa, grandchildren Nick, Christine, and Shannon; great grandchildren Mila, Lily and Elijah, niece Grace, and other family in Chile.
Services will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2026 at 11:00 am at FRENCH-Wyoming followed by interment at Sunset Memorial Park. in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the NM Cancer Center.
