Rena Bourque, 91, of Groves Texas passed away surrounded by family on June 18, 2024, in Pearland, Texas. Rena was born in Kaplan, Louisiana on October 28, 1932. Rena was the loving wife of Atia Bourque, and they were married for 67 years, before his passing. Rena was a homemaker and the devoted mother to two sons, Johnny, and Manny. Rena was a steadfast Christian and a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Groves, Texas.
Rena spent her life in service to others. Whether it was volunteering at her local hospital or taking care of her family. She was also known for her Cajun cooking and cooked frequently on Sundays, special occasions, and holidays. She was the Matriarch of the family and everyone around her knew that she loved them and loved to take care of them. Rena was known as Granny to all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always had a little something to give them every time she visited accompanied with hugs and kisses.
Rena and Atia loved to travel with friends and family and made many trips all over the United States. She loved to go home to Kaplan and spend time with her family there as well.
In the last years of her life, Rena made her home at the Landing at Watercrest Assisted Living Home where she participated in all kinds of fun activities including bingo, where she was a frequent candy winner. She did crafts and had outings with her new friends and saw her family often. She devoutly continued her Christian Catholic faith in her new home. She was loved by the staff and friends that she made while living there.
There will be a visitation memorial with a Rosary for Rena at the Levingston Melancon Funeral Home in Groves, Texas on Thursday, June 27th from 3-5 pm. The Rosary will begin at 2pm. with the burial to be in the Kaplan Cemetery in Kaplan, Louisiana on Friday, June 28th. Rena is survived by her two sons, Johnny Bourque and wife Connie of Savannah, Texas, Manny Bourque, and wife Renee' of Manvel, Texas. She is also survived by her Grandchildren Autumn Cheek and Michael and their children Molly, Amelia, & Mae of Savannah, Texas, Chestin and wife Mamawah and their children Makai, Shiloh, & Senya of Pearland, Texas, Laura Smith and her children Gavin and Kennedy of Savannah, Texas, Chase Bourque and wife Alex and children Sariah, Orella, Mariana, and Avila of Highland Park, Illinois and Cameron Bourque and wife, Heather of Houston, Texas.
She is preceded in death by her Husband, Atia Bourque, parents, Orella and Romaire Gaspard, her sister Mary Gaspard and brother, Wilfred (T-Boy) Gaspard.
