Renee Gilbert, 93 years young and who lived a life filled with love and laughter, left this world on Thursday, February 20, 2025. She was born November 29, 1931 in Denton, Texas to JD and Irene McElroy. The McElroys moved to Washington in the Tacoma area, and later settled in the Custer community. She graduated from Ferndale High School.
Renee and Curtis Gilbert married in 1950 and had seven children that they raised in Custer. Renee could always make room at the table for anyone that stopped in or needed a place to stay. Until retirement, she worked at the Bon Marche where she made many friends and memories.
Renee was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Curtis, her sister Mona, her brother Jim, her daughters Norene and Diana, sons-in-law Paul, Rick, Kevin, and Marc, and many other family members and special friends. All will be rejoicing her arrival in Heaven.
Renee is survived by her children Cheryl Moore, Nancy (Chris) Secrist, Val Hendrickson, Janice Hettervig, Curtis (Geri) Gilbert, her sister Sharon (Dean) Pollinger, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, as well as chosen family and special friends. Many Mondays were spent together spending time strengthening family bonds and giving all of those around her an example of unconditional love.
Our family would love for you to join us in celebration and remembrance of her life on Saturday, March 8, at 1:00 p.m. at the Ferndale Event Center 5715 Barrett Rd., Ferndale, WA. 98248.
