Doug Gilbert Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Woodlawn Funeral Home & Garden of Memories on Feb. 27, 2026.
Douglas Ray Gilbert, 63, of Tomball, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026 while receiving hospice care at home.

Doug was born in 1963 in Brookings, South Dakota, to William and Shirley Gilbert. He grew up in Houston, Texas, and graduated from Waltrip High School. He went on to attend Baylor University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Finance.

Doug built a successful and well-respected career in Real Estate Appraisal. He was widely admired for his deep knowledge of the field and his remarkable ability to recall intricate details from appraisals completed many years earlier.

Doug married his first wife, Monica, and together they welcomed a son, Daniel, in 1990. Sadly, Monica passed away a few years later after a battle with cancer.

In 1996, Doug met Theresa on a singles retreat with Houston First Baptist Church. From the beginning, they felt it was meant to be, especially as each had a son the same age. Daniel and Theresa's son, Justin, quickly became close friends, and the four formed a family. Doug and Theresa were married on June 12, 1997.

A devoted husband and father, Doug found his greatest joy in being a grandfather to his five grandchildren. He loved playing games with them and taking them to the park, creating memories they will cherish forever.

Doug is preceded in death by his father, Bill Gilbert, and his first wife, Monica. He is survived by his loving wife, Theresa Gilbert; his son Daniel Gilbert, daughter-in-law Jen Gilbert, and grandson Gabriel Gilbert; his son Justin Steelman and daughter-in-law Suzanne Steelman, along with their four children, Rylee, Zoe, Tyler, and Max; and his son Brian Gilbert and daughter-in-law Shelby Gilbert. He is also survived by his mother, Shirley Gilbert, and her husband, Al Dunagin; his sister Julie Asbill and her husband Robert Asbill; their son Alex Asbill and his wife Courtney, along with their sons Jaxon and Camden; their daughter Morgan Asbill; and many beloved cousins, extended family members, and friends.
