Retha Scott, 89, of Seligman, MO, passed away peacefully at her home on January 11, 2025.
Retha was born to Ray and Mabel Dent on December 28, 1935, in Powell, Missouri. To know Retha, was to love her. No one knew this better than her husband of 55 years, Walter Scott. She was affectionately known by her husband as "Sweetie" and "Honey". Sharing just a short time with the two, you were guaranteed to hear one of these terms of endearment at least once.
Walter and Retha married at the courthouse on March 12th, 1971, in Gainesville, FL. It wasn't a big, fancy wedding you might think of but as their 55 years together have shown, that didn't matter. Walter recently said, "It's not the wedding that guarantees success, it's the people and the work you are willing to put into your marriage that guarantees success." What a treasure those 55 years were and what a great example for all of us.
Retha was preceded in death by both her parents, Mabel and Ray Dent. She was also proceeded in death by two sisters, Gertrude Tool and Betty Buck.
Retha is survived by her husband of 55 years, Walter Scott. Her daughter Sherrie and her son Bobby. Her daughter Yvonne and her son, David. Her son Richie and his children T'ona, David, and Jennifer. She also had a bonus granddaughter Savanah Mason. In addition, Retha is survived by multiple great-grandchildren.
Retha spent her life dedicated to her family and community. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend, always offering kindness, wisdom, and a listening ear. Her home was a place of warmth, love, and joy, and she will be remembered for her kind and spunky personality and the laughter she brought to everyone around her.
Retha was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on June 25, 1988, in St. Louis, Missouri. She spent her life dedicated to Jehovah actively serving in the door-to-door work encouraging bible reading and education. Her favorite scripture was Revelation 21:4 where it says, "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." Retha held this hope close to her heart and looked forward to being resurrected to perfect health, full of youth and vigor, and no worry of sickness. Retha was a hard worker; she worked alongside her husband in his custom home building company for years. Anyone that had the pleasure of working with her knew what a hard worker she was. She could paint just about anyone under the table. You wouldn't find someone that could cut in and paint a room faster than Retha!
Retha spent her free time enjoying some of her favorite hobbies which include gardening, crocheting, and a love for hummingbirds. Retha also loved listening to classic country music and power houses like Aretha Franklin, always dancing her way around the house with a smile on her face.
Over the last few years, Retha has survived many challenging health issues including being a Breast Cancer survivor. She was a fighter in every way and no matter what she was going through, she never once complained but was always focused on helping others.
Retha's legacy of love, compassion, and joy will forever live on in the hearts of her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
