Rev. David L. Ellis, 87, of Buena Vista, GA, passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at Magnolia Manor of Marion County. A graveside funeral service will be held at 12:00PM on Friday, March 28, 2025, at New Bethel Church in Mauk, GA.
Mr. Ellis was born March 3, 1938, in East Detroit, MI, to Ronald Elmer and Jeanetti McDonald. He was employed with Ford Motor Company in Maintenance as a line inspector. Rev. Ellis left Ford and moved to Buena Vista in the late 1970s, where he started as a volunteer at Magnolia Manor in Spiritual Activities. His volunteer position became part-time and eventually a full-time position. He entered the ministry in 1979, and attended Butler Methodist Church as well as Buena Vista Methodist Church and Bethel Methodist Church. Rev. Ellis and his wife, Betty, started Share the Season where they provided clothing, food, and necessities to lower income community for 30 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Betty J. Ellis, by two sisters, Sharon Filari and Marion Robinson.
He is survived by two daughters, Denise Ellis of Chesterfield Township, MI and Debra Ellis Baskin of Southfield, MI; by two grandchildren, Sean and Katy Baskin and Hailey Baskin; and by two great-grandchildren, Sebastian Baskin and Lucy Baskin.
Way-Watson Funeral Home, 1052 Dr. Deryl Hart Road, Buena Vista, Georgia has been entrusted with these arrangements.
