Rev. George Lee Huffman Jr.

Rev. George Lee Huffman Jr., 74, of Hickory, passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2019, at Charles George Medical Center Valor Hospice, following a period of declining health. George was born June 1, 1944, in Burke County, to the late George Lee Huffman Sr. and Vinnie Wright. He was a former pastor of Halifax Baptist Church in Virginia, Brookford Baptist Church and Harvest Baptist Church. George served in the United States Marine Corps and then enlisted in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. In his spare time he loved gardening and restoring old classic cars. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brothers, Billie Jean Huffman and Jim Couch. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Helen Hicks Huffman; sons, Christopher Huffman and wife Dionn, and Kevin Huffman and wife Penni; grandchildren, Brandon Huffman, Olivia Huffman, Abigail Huffman, Emma Huffman, and Finley Huffman; great-grandchild, Arya Huffman; brothers, Frank Huffman and Clifford Smith; twin sister Juneatte Huffman, and sisters Sandra Smith Garcia, Carol Huffman, Gail Jenkins, and Tony Huffman; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at 3:00 PM at First Baptist Church Hildebran, with Pastor Ron Arndt, Rev. Christopher Huffman, and Rev. Mickey Propst officiating. Interment will follow at First Baptist Church Hildebran Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the North Carolina National Guard and the Caldwell County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at First Baptist Church Hildebran.
