Rev. James “Boe” Ira Stanley, 88, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 1, 2024.
Boe was born on February 8, 1936, in Eastman, Georgia to the late Joel and Vassie Stanley. Upon graduating from Dodge County High School in 1954, he moved to Texas to attend East Texas Baptist College where he met his sweetheart, Rosie Reavis. They were married in 1959. Boe then attended Southwestern Seminary while pastoring several churches in Texas. They welcomed their daughter Ruth Anne in 1964, and two years later Boe and Rosie followed their calling to serve as missionaries in the Philippines. He served 20 years as a Church Planter and worked with primitive tribes in the jungles of the Philippines. Rosie gave birth to Steve in 1967 and Chris in 1971. After retiring from the mission field and moving back to Georgia, he accepted a job as the Director of Missions for the Rehoboth Baptist Association in 1987 where he served until 2004. Building friends and relationships in Warner Robins/Perry, they kept their roots in middle Georgia and were active members at Friendship Baptist Church (a church he started in 1990).
Boe was a loving husband, father, and grandfather (Papa). He enjoyed his retirement years fishing, gardening and spending time with his grandkids. He never met stranger and would strike up a conversation with anyone. His children have fond memories of him taking them for rides on his motorcycle, spending the day at the beach or waterfalls, and taking time out to teach them valuable life skills.
In addition to his parents, Boe was preceded in death by his siblings, Robert N. Stanley, Maryse Johnson, and Anne Colly.
His memory will live forever in the hearts of his wife, Rosalyn R Stanley; children, Ruth Anne Osborne (Chuck), Steve Stanley (Mandy), and Chris Stanley (Claudia); grandchildren, Taylor Osborne Brooks (Bruce), Caleb Osborne (Brooklynn), Logan Osborne, Matt Stanley, Kira Stanley, Ashley Stanley, Emily Stanley, Zach Stanley, and Paityn Stanley along with many other loving family members and friends.
Visitation will be Saturday, August 3, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home in Warner Robins, GA. A funeral service will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Following the service, Boe will be laid to rest in Parkway Memorial Gardens.
