Rev. James Junior Moore, 93, of Statesville, went home to be with his Savior on Monday, November 10, 2025 at Iredell Memorial Hospital.
Born on May 6, 1932, in the Brushy Mountain community of Wilkes County, he was the son of the late Rev. James William Moore and Gertie Etta Greer Moore. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carolyn Ruth Teasley Moore, with whom he is now joyfully reunited in Heaven, as well as by thirteen of his siblings.
Rev. Moore was a faithful servant of the Lord and a true shepherd of the Gospel. He earned an honorary bachelor’s degree and dedicated his life to ministry, guided by a deep love for his Savior and his community. He founded and served as pastor of Gospel Way Baptist Church for more than 20 years, and later established Unity Baptist Church, where he faithfully led the congregation for another 22 years. In recent years, he was a devoted member of Gloryland Baptist Church. His unwavering faith, humble spirit, and compassionate heart touched countless lives. His legacy of love and devotion to Christ will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his three children, Sheila M. Adams (Eddie), Ronald D. Moore (Katie), and Mark S. Moore (Donna); four grandchildren, Alisa M. Griffin (Alan), Nadine M. Walters (Matthew), Jason M. Marlow (Amy), and Kelly M. Shorts (Eric); one sister, Addie Marlow; nine great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Nicholson Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 14, 2025 at Unity Baptist Church with Rev. Blain Keaton, Rev. Dr. James Keever, and Rev. Larry Adams officiating. Rev. Moore will lie-in-state for one hour prior to the service in the sanctuary, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery.
