Jerome (Jerry) Lynch left his earthly home of 85 years to enter into the presence of his Lord and Savior on October 24, 2023 at the VA Hospital in Durham, NC.
Mr. Lynch was raised in Temperance Hall, NC and shortly after graduation from West Edgecombe High School joined the US Air Force where he traveled throughout the US and abroad.
As a talented and sought after musician, he played with several bands and was honored to play alongside Mini-Pearl and Joe Bennett. Although he could play most any instrument, his greatest love was the piano.
He preached God’s word from a very young age, but it was not until 2009 that he was ordained as a gospel minister. It was evident to all who knew Mr. Lynch that serving Jesus Christ through his music, preaching of the Word and living a Christian life was his greatest desire. Mr. Lynch was a member of The Spiritual Echo’s Trio and recorded several records which ministered to many.
Mr. Lynch was a member of Roberson Grove Baptist Church where he served many years faithfully as pianist, Sunday school teacher and deacon. He truly had a servant’s heart and to know him was to love him.
Faith Ministries of Global Gospel Radio, a world-wide preaching ministry, was begun by Mr. Lynch and was aired throughout the world for several years.
Mr. Lynch spent many hours at the VA Hospital in Durham where he was awarded a Quilt of Valor in a special ceremony. ‘The Piano Man’ is how he was known at the VA hospital where he frequently played the piano. He received much joy from taking requests from the patients, visitors and staff as they often would gather around the piano. He insisted on playing ‘Amazing Grace’ before playing any other song. Often doctors, nurses and staff would join him around the piano playing various instruments.
Left to cherish wonderful memories are his son, James Michael Lynch; daughter, Teri Lynn Lynch Walker; Granddaughter, Savannah Grace Walker; brother, Jimmy Ray Lynch (Sharon); sisters, Patricia Lynch Williams and Carol Lynch Jollay (David); many cousins and numerous friends who were like family to him.
Jerome Lynch was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ann Shadding Lynch; son, David Bruce Lynch; Mother, Posy Proctor Lynch and Father, William Joseph Lynch.
