Rev. Lester Allen Honson, age 86, of Auburn, Georgia, entered into the realms of heaven and presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday morning, November 3, 2025. Born on August 15, 1939, in Mediapolis, Iowa, Lester lived a life marked by unwavering faith, compassionate service, and a deep devotion to his calling and to his family.
A scholar of the Bible, Lester earned a Doctorate in Biblical Studies and dedicated most of his life to proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ. His passion for evangelism reached far beyond the pulpit – most notably through 17 years of missionary work in Ireland with his wife, Judy, where he touched countless lives with the message of hope, and the grace of God through Jesus Christ. Lester became a cherished member of Auburn First Baptist Church where he continued serving, in many ways, leaving a lasting imprint to many people in the community.
In addition to his ministry, Lester also honorably served in the United States Marine Corps, exemplifying courage, discipline and love for his country.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judy Lockhart Honson, his son Leif Honson, and his siblings Lowell Honson, Jean Heitmeier, Lyndell Honson and Ralph Honson.
Lester is survived by his son, Les Honson, and daughter-in-law, Patricia Reyes Rico, of Lawrenceville, GA, his sister Bettie Siefken of Mediapolis Iowa, and his brother Ronald Honson of Machesney Park, Illinois . He is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren – Garin Honson of Loganville, Devin Honson of Statham, Ariana Honson of Snellville, Daniel Sanchez of Lawrenceville, Nadia Sanchez of Dallas, TX, Leslie Lopez Reyes of Auburn and Katherine Lopez Reyes of Snellville, and by 14 great-grandchildren, and one on the way.
Rev. Honson leaves behind a profound spiritual heritage and a devoted family who will honor his memory and share the light of Jesus Christ he so faithfully embodied. He is now in the next part of his journey of service, whatever that may be.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Auburn First Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Chris Parkin. Lester will Lie-In-State at the church building at 1:00 PM, with burial to follow at Auburn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to Auburn First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 4, Auburn, GA 30011
