Mt. Taylor Funerals & CremationsReyes "Ray" Margarito Olivas, a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on March 4, 2026, at the age of 88, in La Jara, New Mexico. He was born on January 6, 1938, in Cuba, NM, where he developed a love for the outdoors that would stay with him throughout his life.
Ray proudly joined the U.S. Marine Corps at the tender age of 17, serving his country with honor and distinction. His time in the service molded him into a dedicated and steadfast individual, traits he carried into his civilian life.
Family was always at the heart of Rays' world. He cherished the moments spent with loved ones, eagerly anticipating gatherings, especially those in La Jara, where his spirit seemed to shine brightest. His wife of 59 years, Connie Olivas, was his steadfast companion, sharing countless memories alongside their children: Patrick (Liza) Olivas, Michael (Gwen) Olivas, and Delia Comita.
Ray took immense pride in every fishing trip and hunting excursion, where he imparted his skills to his children and grandchildren, ensuring that the family tradition would continue for generations to come. He leaves behind a legacy enriched by the joyful experiences shared with his grandchildren—Jordan (Melisa) Olivas, Tyler (Liz) Olivas, Sharissa Olivas, Brett Olivas, Jaddyn (Christian) Olivas, Raven (Austin) Olivas, Cameo (Joseph) Olivas, Sabelle Olivas, Lucas Olivas, Heather Comito, and Bridget Comito—and his great-grandchildren, Sophia, Ezra, Tatum, Nolan, and Tyson.
Ray was known for his passion as an avid sports fan, always rooting for the Denver Broncos and Lobo Basketball with fervor. His infectious spirit and love for life made him a cherished friend to many, and he will be remembered for the warmth and laughter he brought into the lives of those around him.
He is preceded in death by his son, Chris Olivas; his great-grandson, Ryker Olivas; and two sisters alongside seven brothers, leaving behind memories that will forever warm the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A Rosary service will be held on March 17, 2026, at 9:30 AM, followed by a Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Grants, NM. He will be laid to rest in Grants Memorial Park Cemetery, where family and friends are invited to honor a life well lived.
In loving tribute to Ray M. Olivas, we celebrate a man whose love for family, dedication to his passions, and vibrant spirit touched the lives of so many.
