Rhonda Christine Boyd, 75, of Union Mills, died Monday, September 15, 2025.
She was the daughter of the late Harvey and Faye Huffstatler Massey. She was the oldest of her siblings, and after their mother passed away at the young age of 51, Rhonda became the matriarch of the family. All of her sisters looked to her for guidance. She was tough on them, but she loved them fiercely. She was both their protector and corrector. Rhonda was loving, kind, and generous, but she was also tough and straight up. As a person wrote in her online obituary, "She would tell you like it was when she had to." She raised her children in that same manner, and she extended that same care to many who were not her own children, guiding them as if they were. She worked in the restaurant business most of her life, eventually owning The Point of View in Lake Lure with her sister Brenda for over 18 years, as well as Alyssa's for several years. Through her work, she touched countless lives, helping, encouraging, and setting many young and old alike on the path to success.
She is survived by her son, Horace Boyd, Jr.(Diane) of Forest City; her daughters, Heather Boyd(Lewis) of Forest City, Renee Miskell(Doug) of Rutherfordton, and Allison Gaskin(Andre) of Simpsonville, SC; her sisters, Regina Farmer(Donna) of Morganton, Brenda Hoyle(Wayne) of Marion, Linda Massey of Asheville, Louise Byrd of Fort Mill, SC and Kay Brown, Greenville, SC; her grandchildren, Michael McDaniel, Erin McDaniel, Jaylon Simmons, Dylan Boyd, Dalton Boyd(Lauren), Brianna Wilson(Trevor), Abagail Norris, Laya Norris, Haley Gaskin, Eli Gaskin, and Chloe Gaskin; her great grandchildren, Dawson Boyd, Landry Boyd, Ridge Boyd, Graham Boyd, Cohen Boyd, and D.J. Cheeseman; and a number of nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. She was loved by many, and her presence, strength and love will be deeply missed. Her legacy will live on through her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and the many lives she touched along the way.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at 4:00 pm Friday, September 19, 2025 at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home. Several family members will provide eulogies for Rhonda's service.
