Rhonda Hargrave Obituary

Rhonda Jean Mitchell Hargrave, age 73, of San Angelo, Brownfield, and Wellman, Texas, passed peacefully into the arms of our Savior on October 10, 2025, with her loving daughters at her side.

Born on March 29, 1952, in Clinton, Oklahoma, to Wanda Cawthon and Robert Wade “Mitch” Mitchell, Rhonda lived a life overflowing with laughter, love, and generosity. She had a huge heart, always putting the needs of others before her own, and carried an unwavering love for her family and friends. Rhonda never met a stranger and could — and did — talk to anyone.

A lifelong educator, Rhonda taught middle school math in Brownfield ISD for more than a dozen years, later earning her counseling degree and serving as a counselor and diagnostician in Wellman ISD for 18 years. During her years in education, she met countless wonderful students, teachers, and friends who she loved dearly.

After retirement, Rhonda moved to San Angelo to be closer to daughter Lynsey and her family. Here, she was able to devote herself to her greatest role of all — Grandma to Colton and Holland. They were the absolute lights of her life, and she never missed an opportunity to tell anyone who would listen about them. She adored her time with each, but no time was more special than their summers together at The Cabin in New Mexico, which blended two of her most precious loves.

Rhonda found great joy in many things. She loved traveling with her daughter Stacey and her best friends, antiquing with “her girls,” cheering on her beloved Aggies from her season ticket seats at Kyle Field, bossing around her son-in-law Bruce (and anyone else who would do her bidding), and talking to family and friends on the phone. Known for her quick wit and ability to entertain the masses, she loved making people laugh — even if her family often teased her that she only THOUGHT she was funny.

Rhonda loved all her family deeply. She especially enjoyed joking and teasing with her nieces, nephews, and their children, all of whom brought her so much joy. She valued her friendships and kept those bonds close throughout her life.

She will be deeply and dearly missed, but her family takes comfort knowing she is now reunited in Heaven with her parents; her beloved older sister, Robbie, and the nieces and nephews she missed so much: Tiffanie, Cliff, Donley, Tara and Mitchell. We rejoice knowing she is now surrounded by eternal joy and laughter in their company.

She is survived by her daughters, Lynsey Flage (Bruce) and Stacey Hargrave; her cherished grandchildren, Colton and Holland; siblings Royce Mitchell (Pam) and Rita Griffith; and her best friend since junior high, Cindy Phillips Raef (Kenny). She also leaves behind their children and grandchildren, all of whom she loved as her own.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Nov 8 at 11:30am at Ruffini Chapel, 11 E Avenue B, in San Angelo. Friends and loved ones are invited to share memories, laughter, and love in her honor. Memorial donations may be made to Meals for the Elderly or the National Kidney Foundation.
