Ricardo Morales, Sr., affectionately known as Ricky to his friends and loved ones, lived a life marked by joy, resilience, and an unyielding devotion to his family. Born on July 14, 1964, in the warm community of McAllen, Texas, Ricky's journey took him to the vibrant neighborhoods of Orange County, where he would lay down roots and establish a legacy of love and laughter. On May 13, 2025, at the age of 60, Ricky passed away peacefully in Westminster, California, leaving behind a world brighter for his presence.
Ricky's life was a testament to the power of hard work and commitment. After completing his education in Orange County, he dedicated over two decades to his craft as a commercial painter, a career that showcased his meticulous nature and his pride in a job well done. Despite the demands of his profession, Ricky's true passion was the life he built with his beloved wife, Velma Pena. Their love story, which began in the halls of their Junior High School in Santa Ana, blossomed into a partnership that would endure for over 30 years, filled with mutual respect, shared dreams, and an abundance of joy.
As a family man, Ricky's heart knew no bounds. He was the proud father of three sons, Ricardo Jr., Manuel, and Anthony, and four daughters, Julia, Briana, Amie, and Dora. His love extended to his two step-daughters, Jessica and Juanita, and was further multiplied by the laughter of his nine grandchildren, Jason, Lilly, Brandon, Natalie, Isaiah, Nikolai, Athena, Ivan, and Manuel Jr. Ricky's family circle was completed by the steadfast support of his two brothers, Gus and Eddie, who stood by him through every season of life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gustavo Morales, Sr., and Olivia Morales; one brother Mario Morales and four sisters, Diana Morales, Maria Morales, Esmeralda Morales and Leticia Morales all of whom he loved dearly.
Ricky's zest for life was contagious, and his interests reflected his spirited personality. He was the quintessential family man, often found at the center of barbeques, camping trips, and his more than epic Fourth of July parties with his firework displays creating unforgettable memories with every adventure. His love for the open road was matched only by his passion for football, with the Dallas Cowboys holding a special place in his heart. With a Bud Light in hand and the remote control firmly within his grasp, Ricky was the epitome of the man of the house, his playful growl a familiar sound that brought smiles to all who knew him.
His humor was a beacon that drew people in, and Ricky was often the mastermind behind a good-natured joke, sparking laughter and lightness wherever he went. His family was his cornerstone, and every milestone and celebration was an opportunity to reaffirm his commitment to them. No gathering was complete without an ice-cold Bud Light, a symbol of the simple joys that Ricky cherished most. Even on his grumpiest days, he had a smile for everyone, a reminder that love and happiness are choices we make every day.
Ricky's legacy is one of courage, humor, and an unquenchable spirit. He taught us that life's richness is found in the moments we share with those we hold dear. He exemplified the idea that being funny doesn't just mean making others laugh; it means approaching life with a lightness that helps us overcome challenges. He was the embodiment of courage, not because he was fearless, but because he faced life with a steadfast heart. Ricky's spirit was a force of nature, a reminder to us all that the essence of life is to love deeply, laugh heartily, and make every moment count.
Despite life's challenges, including the loss of an eye and a leg, Ricky's resilience never wavered. His family often marveled at his ability to overcome adversity, joking that he had nine lives or more. Yet, it was his spirited nature and courageous heart that truly defined him.
As we remember Ricardo Morales, Sr., let us honor his memory by embracing the values he lived by. Let us find joy in the simple pleasures, cherish the time spent with family, and face each day with a spirited heart. Ricky's journey may have come to a close, but the echoes of his laughter and the warmth of his love will continue to inspire and guide us. In every shared joke, every road trip, and every toast raised with a Bud Light, we will feel his presence, encouraging us to live fully, love fiercely, and laugh often. Ricky's story is not one of farewell, but a celebration of a life well-lived, a life that will continue to motivate and uplift us all.

My fond memories with Ricky, sitting in my dad's driveway drinking beer in his Monte Carlo while they were spraying Malathion, every Saturday night for a couple of years, we would go to the drive-in, drink beer and watch action movies. Ricky talked all of us, family and friends into camping up in Sequoia National Park. I Love You Brother.
