Richard R. Treviño, born on August 20, 1948, of Corpus Christi, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025, surrounded by family.
Richard was a lifelong sports enthusiast, with a special love for baseball, including the Houston Astros. His love of the game began in city baseball little league teams, following him into adulthood. He graduated from Miller High School in 1966, where he proudly represented the Buccaneers on the baseball diamond as a star pitcher. After high school, he played for semi pro teams throughout the 1960s and 1970s in the coastal bend area, including for the Corpus Christi Orioles and Paradise Lions. He was a talented pitcher, throwing many no-hitter games. He was active in adult softball leagues across south Texas, where he played for La Familia and in Latin and Mexican American leagues and tournaments. Richard umpired for decades across the coastal bend, including multiple times in the UIL high school baseball state tournament and in multiple collegiate games. His earnest commitment to his community’s future was apparent as he applied his passion towards mentoring youth and collegiate athletes and early career umpires. The Texas Association of Sports Officials presented him with a Distinguished Service Award in 2017 and then recognized him as an honorary lifetime member in 2022.
His commitment to community was true in other areas of his life. In 2019, he retired after 40 years of combined federal civil service, which included his career in the Social Security Administration and service in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Richard was a devoted Catholic and active member of St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church in Annaville, serving in the Knights of Columbus and in the Eucharistic and Adoration ministries.
Richard enjoyed spending quality time with his friends and family, especially his grandkids. He adored them, and they truly were the light of his world. He also had many nieces and nephews who looked up to him, especially Johnathan, Ethan, and Giada. He was a warm and welcoming friend to all who knew him. There were no strangers to him, just people he had not met yet. Richard loved his Sunday mornings, especially going out to breakfast for fellowship after mass. He was an incredible man who will be dearly missed by many.
He is survived by his loving wife of more than 50 years, Beatrice. Together they have 3 children, Erica, Richard (Amanda), and Monica (David), and 3 grandchildren, JonDavid, AnnaBelle, and Elías. He is also survived by his sister Leonor. He is preceded in death by his beloved parents Sara and Felipe, and siblings Irma, Robert “Bobby”, and Rodolfo “Rudy”.
