Richard Alan Alto, 91, of Madison Heights, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2024. He was the husband of the late Nancy Pearson Alto, a devoted husband, father, and Far-Far.
Richard was born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania on April 12, 1932, a son of the late William Richard Alto and Eva England Alto. Richard honorably served his country in the U.S. Army, was retired from Babcock & Wilcox. Richard was a member of American Legion Post #16, and was a parishioner of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Lynchburg.
He is survived by a daughter Patty Lacks (Mike) of Madison Heights, a son Alan Alto (Nena) of Virginia Beach, grandchildren: Chris Alto (Heather), Martha Lynn Rector (Jason), Nicholas Jennings (Carrie), Brandon Jennings (Amanda) and Alexander Alto, seven great-grandchildren, three sisters: Helen Connors, Hazel Duffy, and Renee Ledger, and three amazing ladies: Bonnie, Michelle, and Tammie who loved him dearly.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Sunday, February 18, 2024, at Tharp Funeral Home Madison Heights, 118 Commonwealth Drive. Honors provided by the Virginia Patriot Guard.
A Celebration of Richard’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 19, 2024, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Todd Vie officiating. Inurnment will follow at the church columbarium with military honors provided by American Legion Post #16 Honor Guard.
Memorials may be made to American Legion Post #16, Lynchburg, VA.
