Richard "Dick" Andring, age 91, of Gary, MN, died Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND, surrounded by his family.

Richard Joseph Andring was born on September 2, 1934, to Raymond and Gertrude (Martin) Andring at home on the family farm in Waukon Township near Gary, MN. He attended Cheerful Country School and, after moving with his family into Mahnomen, MN, Dick graduated from Mahnomen High School in 1952. Richard served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Serving stateside with the 2nd Battalion, 11th Armored Cavalry, Dick spent time in Colorado, California, and at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Following his honorable discharge, he returned home and married his high school sweetheart, Darleen "Doodie" Dobmeyer, in 1954. To this union, five children were born: Daniel, Arnold, Vincent, Angela, and Laura. In 1956, Dick and Doodie moved to the farm where he spent his life providing for his family by working the land and milking cows. In addition to being a busy farmer, he also served on numerous community boards. Over the years, he was a township board officer, a Wild Rice Electric board director, served on the Red River Basin Board, and was a Norman County Commissioner. Dick was also an active, lifelong member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, where he was baptized, confirmed, and married. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards, bowling, and doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles. He also spent many hours listening to classical music. Dick enjoyed gardening and could often be found tending to his more than 200 gladiolus and other flowers. He had a special place in his heart for animals and usually had a beloved dog by his side.

Richard is survived by his wife of 71 years, Darleen; three sons: Daniel (Elizabeth) of Oswego, NY, Arnold (Barbara) of Crookston, MN, and Vincent of Gary; one daughter, Angela Faria of Elk Grove, CA; 11 grandchildren, including a special grandson, Douglas (Amy) of West Fargo, ND; and five great-grandchildren; one sister, Beverly (Virgil) Amsden of St. Paul, MN; and one sister-in-law, Doreen Andring of Lakeville, MN; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Laura Andring; a daughter-in-law, Gayle Andring; two grandsons, Dennis Faria and Joshua Thiem; five brothers: Arnold, Lenord, Vernon, William, and David: four sisters: Lucille Gish, Helen Lindberg, Mary Moore, and Claire Cook; and his very special dog, Mr. Red.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Mahnomen, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery.
