Richard D. Arter, age 86, passed away on October 28, 2024.

He was born to Emil and Florence (nee Garn) Arter on June 21, 1938, in Fremont, Ohio.

Richard attended Fremont Ross High School; he then joined The United States Army, serving as an MP in Germany.

Richard enjoyed boating and fishing on Lake Erie, watching Reds baseball, birdwatching, and spending time with his family.

He was a member of the Mason Masonic Lodge #678, American Legion Joe Barr Post 194, and the Butler County Sportsmen Club.

He worked as a police officer in Fremont, OH, for many years and as a State Farm Insurance Agent for 25 years. 

Richard is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sandra Arter (nee Thurn). Two sons, Brent Arter and Kent (Connie) Arter and son-in-law Doug Barnes. Grandchildren: Todd Barnes (Christin), Teri Barnes, Collin Arter, and Reille (William) Breitigam. Great Grandchildren: Austin, Cara, Declan and Ainsley Barnes. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Preceded in death by his daughter Wende Barnes and brother Robert Arter.

A memorial visitation will take place at Mueller Funeral Home (6791 Tylersville Road, Mason, OH 45040) on Saturday, November 9, 10:00am-12:00pm with a brief memorial service beginning at 12:00pm with a luncheon to follow.

In lieu of flowers you may make memorial donations to Hospice of Cincinnati Blue Ash.
