Richard Ayuso Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Daniel J. Schaefer Funeral Home - Brooklyn on Dec. 16, 2025.
Richard "Ricky" Ayuso, a cherished soul whose vibrant spirit and deep-seated love for his family left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing him, passed away on December 13, 2025, at the age of 64. Born on January 30, 1961, in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, Ricky's life was a tapestry of close-knit family ties, a passion for music and sports, and a dedication to his community.
Ricky's early years in Manhattan were filled with the bustling energy of city life and the warmth of a home where family was everything. He and his siblings-Hector, Diane, Cynthia, the late Robert, and the late Debra-grew up together like a wolf pack, creating a bond that was both fierce and tender. His parents, Rudolph Johnson and Gloria Martinez, who predeceased him, instilled values of love and togetherness that Ricky would carry throughout his life.
After completing his education in the same vibrant neighborhood where he was raised, Ricky embarked on a career that would span decades as a Maintenance Technician for the New York Housing Authority. His commitment to his work was evident in the care he took to ensure the comfort and safety of countless residents, earning him respect and admiration from his colleagues and the community he served.
Ricky's personal life was equally rich, filled with the joys of partnership and fatherhood. He shared a loving and devoted relationship of 25 years with his domestic partner, Elizabeth Mavroudis. He raised five wonderful children: Nancy, Mary, Sheila, Ricky Jr., and Madeline. The family was later blessed with six grandchildren, who became the light of Ricky's life.
A man of many interests, Ricky's love for music knew no bounds. Soulful music, Latin beats, and everything in-between, he relished in the world of melodies and rhythms. His passion for sports was equally fervent, with basketball, football, and baseball providing not just entertainment but a way to connect with friends and family.
Ricky's affection extended beyond his immediate family to a vast network of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom he loved deeply. He was the heart of family gatherings, his spirited laughter and thoughtful conversations leaving a lasting memory in the minds of those he loved.
Spirited, loving, and thoughtful-these words capture the essence of Ricky. He approached life with a boundless enthusiasm that was contagious, a caring nature that made everyone feel valued, and a thoughtful demeanor that showed his deep consideration for others.
Ricky's life was one of joy, purpose, and love. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we hold tight to the memories he leaves behind, knowing that his legacy will continue to inspire and guide us. Ricky's life was a song of love and family, a melody that will resonate forever in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
