Mr. Richard Chambers Barnett of Salemtowne Drive died on October 10, 2025. He was born April 27, 1932 in Davenport, Florida to Richard Jones and Helen June Barnett. He spent his early life in Davenport, Florida and Asheville, NC. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wake Forest College. He received a M. Ed and a Ph.D from the University, of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, NC.

He taught history at Wake Forest University, and before that at Gardner-Webb College in Boiling Springs, NC. He also served in the U.S. Army Counter-Intelligence Corps for two years. While at WFU he served as chairman of the history department twice and served on the honor and ethics board for several years.

He was a charter member of the Brinkley Baptist Church in Chapel Hill, NC and became a charter member of the Wake Forest Baptist Church when it moved to Winston-Salem in 1956. Richard was very active in church affairs, serving on the diaconate as well as volunteer activities in the church.

He is survived by one daughter, Amelia (Amy) Carlton Barnett and spouse Peggy Graves of Milwaukee, WI, and one son, Colin Warwick Barnett and one daughter, Molly Katherine Barnett, both of Charlotte, NC and one brother-in-law, Harvey Royal Holding of Florida, and four nieces and one nephew.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no public service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Harold Wayland and Nelle Futch Tribble Scholarship of Wake Forest University, in Winston-Salem, NC 27109.
