Richard I. Basch, M.D., 88, of Sarasota passed away September 16, 2022. Dr. Basch was born on December 8, 1933 in Boston, Massachusetts to Arthur and Florence (Sweat) Basch.
He was a graduate of Harvard University and the Boston University School of Medicine where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and earned a place in the medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha. Dr. Basch practiced Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at Sarasota Memorial Hospital from 1979 until his retirement at age 75.
He was very involved with the Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, where he sat on the Board of Directors for 12 years and earned an Honorary Doctorate of Art in 2017.
Richard is survived by Barbara, his wife of 58 years, his son Dane Basch of Sarasota, his daughter Melissa Malone of Portland, Maine, and his granddaughters Erin and Alexandra Basch.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to either Ringling College of Art and Design Scholarship Fund, 2700 North Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, FL 34234, or TideWell Hospice, Inc., 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.

I wish to express my condolences to Barbara, Dane and Melissa. I recall babysitting for them many times and working with Barbara. Dr. Basch was instrumental in helping me in answering medical questions. He was a wonderful man and I know a great father and husband. RIP, doc. You are being missed!
