Richard Lewis Beeny, a 63-year-old resident of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away on Monday, August 18, 2025, at the Mt. Vernon Place Care Center.
Rick was born April 4, 1962, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Richard D. and Joyce (Turk) Beeny. He was raised in Oregon, where he graduated from Tigard High School. As a fifth grader, his teacher, Mr. Howling, found him to be a "naturally born drummer," starting him on a path that led to him playing the drums in high school and later as a student at Dallas Christian College. As an adult, Rick was a professional drummer, playing with a band, SPECTRUM, and as a studio musician on various CDs.
Beginning in high school, Rick worked in the automotive industry and following college graduation, he became a successful outside salesman for Snap-On, where he worked until he was forced to retire due to his health. Rick was best known for his good and kind heart. He lived his faith in the way he treated others, choosing to be Christ-like in thought and deed so that others might choose Christ. He was a member of the Mt. Vernon Church of Christ.
Although his illness limited him in what he could do physically, Rick found many ways to keep his mind active – from teaching a young nephew how to play Chess, keeping track of his beloved Kansas City Chiefs and Dallas Cowboys and looking forward to frequent visits from grandson Waylan. He wanted others to know and remember him as a man who said what he meant (never "wishy-washy"), who was a man of his word and as a family man who loved his three boys.
Rick is survived by his wife of 21 years, Ellen Beeny of the home; his mother, Joyce Beeny of Tualatin, Oregon; three sons, Brad (Jasmine) Beeny of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Britton Beeny of The Colony, Texas and Rich (Jesica) Mitchell of Clever, Missouri; three granddaughters, Autumn and Andi Beeny of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Shaylan Lauck of Clever, Missouri; one grandson, Waylan Mitchell of Clever, Missouri; one sister, Barbara (Geoffrey) Tease of Fishers, Indiana and several nieces, nephews and cousins, including a special cousin, Susan (Michael) Craig of Oronogo, Missouri.
Rick was preceded in death by his father, Richard D. Beeny.
Rick spent his last several years at Bel Oak (formerly Mt. Vernon Place Care Center), where he received kind and compassionate care. The family would like to express their gratitude to everyone there – the housekeepers, maintenance staff, kitchen staff, aides, nurses, and administration – for creating a home and being a family to him.
A funeral service under the direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at the Mt. Vernon Church of Christ. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 22, 2025, at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dallas Christian College, 2700 Christian Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75234 or to the Zambia Mission Fund, Box 3393, Abilene, Texas 79604.
