Richard Boolootian Obituary

Richard Andrew Boolootian

October 17, 1927 - September 8, 2024

Santa Cruz, California - Richard (Dick) Andrew Boolootian completed his last mortal orbit around the sun on September 8th, 2024, one month shy of his 97th birthday. Known to many as Dr. B, he embraced life, was a dedicated father, scientist, educator par excellence, and possessed boundless energy and positivity, with a laugh and smile that were unforgettable.

Born in 1927, in Fresno to immigrant parents who fled the genocide in Armenia, Richard entered life into a family that farmed for a living. He received his BA and MA degrees from Fresno State College, and a PhD in Zoology from Standford University. He served on many boards, functioned as an editor for several journals, was a philanthropic supporter of schools and science programs, and was an extraordinary cook. He was predeceased by his first wife, Georgia, and by his son Alan. He is survived by his sons Mark (Camilla) and Craig, grandsons Richard and Robert Boolootian, and granddaughters Brittany Favero (Sebastian, and great granddaughters Amelia and Gianna), and Trixie Weber (Edward, and great grandchildren Emily, Juliana, James, and Allison), and former wife Mary Jo Blue.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Santa Cruz County in Richard's name. A graveside service will be held in Fresno on September 25th.

I´ve often thought of Richard and the Boolootian family over the years, even doing an occasional search. I was part of their family (1980-1996) and married to Richards middle son, Alan. Richard was a wonderful patriarch and was very kind to me. The whole Boolootian family are good solid people and I miss them Im so sad to hear of his passing.
My condolences on your loss.
He was one of a kind

I am so sad to hear of Dicks passing. What an extraordinary man he was. He was a good friend and while living in Los Angeles we attended many parties together. We especially looked forward to the wonderful get togethers at his home. His warm hospitality and food he prepared himself were so special. Rest in peace dear friend. You will always be fondly remembered. Diane and Jim.
