Richard Bortone Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hahn Funeral Home on Mar. 17, 2025.
Richard Charles Bortone Sr., born on February 5, 1945, in Mishawaka, Indiana, a man known for his loving nature and his dedication to his family, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2025, in South Bend, Indiana.
On June 24, 1967, Richard married the love of his life, Barbara Marks. Their bond was deep and unwavering, built on a foundation of mutual respect, trust, and affection. Together, they shared not just a home, but a life filled with adventures, laughter, and countless memories. In 2021, the world grew a little quieter with Barbara's passing after spending 54 years together, but the love they shared lives on in the hearts of their children and grandchildren.
A loving father, Richard is survived by his daughter Adrienne (Philo Huston) Bortone and his son Richard (Jill) Bortone Jr., along with his cherished grandchildren, Noah, Justin, and Isabella.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Florence (Sutter) Bortone, his wife Barbara, his brother Joseph Bortone, and his sister-in-law Mary Ann Bortone, and by his sister Charlene (Al)Van Overberghe.
His life story is a tapestry of dedication to his loved ones and the indelible mark he made on those around him. Richard's presence will be profoundly missed, yet the richness of his spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Our dad will be dearly missed by family and friends. His family was his pride and joy, and his greatest role in life was being a grandpa and Pawpaw. He showed unconditional love to his family and always made sure to say I love you. He was a person you could count on and didn't hesitate to help anyone in need. He was the best dad you could ask for and left an impression on everyone he met.
A visitation will take place Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W 8th St. Mishawaka. A private graveside service will take place at Riverview Cemetery.
If anyone would like to make donations in memory of Richard, the family requests contributions be made to Alzheimer's & Dementia Serves of Northern Indian, 111 Sunnybrook Ct, South Bend.
