Richard Wayne Boyes

Sergeant Major Richard Wayne Boyes, 92, of Spartanburg, South Carolina, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born in Akron, Ohio on October 28, 1928, the son of the late Ellsworth Boyes and Mary Greaser Boyes and was the husband of Marjorie Reider Boyes. He was first married to the late Mrs. Anna German Boyes. Sergeant Major Richard Wayne Boyes served in the United States Army during both World War II and the Vietnam War during his career of 31 years. During his service career he received the National Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Army Occupation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palms, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 device, Expert Badge with Carbine Bar M-1 and the Meritorious Service Medal. In addition to his wife Marjorie, he is also survived by one son, Richard Wayne Boyes, II and his wife Janice of Eureka Springs, Arkansas; one daughter, Laurel Boyes Wiles and her husband Ron of Spartanburg, South Carolina; four granddaughters, Heather Ann Mills of Charlotte, North Carolina, Jordan Lynn Mills of New York, New York, Maggie Wiles of Charleston, South Carolina and Zoey Claire Wiles of Spartanburg, South Carolina; two grandsons, Michael Richard Boyes and wife Gretchen of Hot Springs Arkansas and Neil Boyes of Hot Springs, Arkansas; four great grandchildren, Isabella Grace Boyes, Lillian Elizabeth Boyes, Emerson Kate Boyes and Gannon Richard Boyes all of Hot Springs, Arkansas; four stepchildren, Tom Dustin, Patricia Mostoller, Perry Dustin and Cathy Prokorat and extended family all of Ohio. He was also predeceased by one brother, John D. Boyes and two sisters, Mary Boyes Payne and Verna Mae Boyes. Burial with Full Military Honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery.
