Deadwood - Richard (Dick) Boyle, 93, of Deadwood, South Dakota, passed away peacefully at Peaceful Pines Assisted Living Center in Spearfish, South Dakota, on Sunday, November 9, 2025.
Dick was born in Fargo, North Dakota on November 13, 1931, to Martin and Elenor Boyle of Sheldon, North Dakota.
When Dick was 11, the family purchased a farm and moved near Fingal, North Dakota. Dick attended school at a country
school near Sheldon for his primary grade. The rest of his education took place at Fingal Public School in Fingal, North Dakota.
He was drafted into the army in 1952. He was stationed in Naples, Italy, serving in the Signal Corp and for two years in active
duty.
After his military service, he attended North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, North Dakota. His family attended mass at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fingal, North Dakota. In 1964, he married Rosemary Frovarp and he became "Dad" to five children: Steven, Roger, Kevin, Mary Susan, and Debbie. The family attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in West Fargo, North Dakota.
Dick was employed by Northern States Power (NSP, now Xcel Energy), from 1956 – 1990 as a foreman of the natural gas crew.
He was a member of the Fargo North Dakota American Legion Club.
Dick's free time was spent as a motorcycle enthusiast and an avid rider, riding over 250,000 miles during his life. He owned five Honda Goldwings. He took his family camping every summer.
Dick is survived by his sister, Nancy Stockmoe of Castle Rock, Colorado, four stepchildren: Steven Frovarp of Hazen, ND, Kevin
Frovarp (Rita) of West Fargo, ND, Mary Susan Almlie (Scott) of Maple Grove, MN, and Debbie Brand of West Fargo, ND, and
several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Elenor Boyle, wife Rosemary, infant daughter Shannon, stepson Roger Frovarp (Jason Lines), sister Joan Johnson, brothers-in-law Kenneth Johnson and Larry Stockmoe, daughter-in-law Mary Lou Frovarp, grandson Jason Lines, and nephew Jeffrey Johnson. Funeral mass will be held at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Deadwood, South Dakota at 11:00am. A rosary will be prayed for him at the church preceding the funeral at 10:00am. Burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery at 2:00pm. Happy hour and luncheon will be held at the VFW (post 5969) in Deadwood at 3:00pm. All times are local Mountain Time.
