Visitation will be held at the cemetery with the family greeting friends one hour prior to services. Memorials may be given in Dick's name. Memories may be shared with the family at www.ritchiefuneralhome.com under Obituaries. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox where we 'Celebrate Life'.
Richard Eugene Brammer was born September 22, 1927 in Creston, Iowa the son of Rola E. Brammer and Ethel (Blivens) Brammer. Growing up the family lived in several homes as Rola would purchase them and fix them up and then sell them... progressively on to a new and better home! Dick would tell you he attended every country school in the area except St. Malachy's! Growing up in his grade school years he played basketball and other games. After school he helped Lew and his brother Kenny farming and milking cows. Dick met his sweetheart, Evelyn Cecila Wurster and the couple were united in marriage on June 19, 1947. The couple would make their home on Evelyn's family round barn farm south of Lenox where they lived until 1966, when they moved to their home on Tennessee Avenue. Six children were born to bless their lives, Patty, Wayne, Allen, Larry, Vickie and Lexie.
Dick welded and ran a milking machine for Bennett & Sons while he was farming and running the dozer. In 1958 they started rebuilding Highway 49 and Dick ran many different kinds of heavy equipment, getting paid 75 cents per hour. Dick studied and received his GED and started working as an inspector for the Department of Transportation out of Creston. He also worked on I-35 at Osceola, 435 in Kansas City and did a lot of work at the Kansas City Airport. During this time he also studied during night classes studying surveying. Dick always felt lucky that he was given the title of superintendent working with many of them for over 20 years. After retirement the couple enjoyed taking vacations, usually south, however, they loved the Smokey Mountains and wintered in Mountain Home, Arkansas for many years. Evelyn passed away in December of 2017 and Dick continued to live in their home.
Left to cherish Dick's memory are his children, Wayne Brammer and wife Betty of Clearfield, Iowa; Allen Brammer and wife Linda of Clearfield, Iowa; Vickie Dukes and husband Dennis of Greenfield, Iowa; and Lexie Starlin and husband Don of Creston, Iowa; along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding Dick in death are his parents, Rola and Ethel Brammer; his loving wife Evelyn Wurster Brammer; a son, Larry Brammer in 1966; a daughter, Patty Perez in 2016; his granddaughter, Theresa Moses in 2016; and grandson, Wade Starlin in 2020.
We will forever hold the memory of Dick in our hearts.
May he be at peace in God's loving care.
