Obituary published on Legacy.com by Phillips Funeral Service Inc. - High Point on Jul. 31, 2025.
Deacon Richard Alfred Brevard was born on February 22, 1946, to the late Abraham Brevard and Ruby Brevard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers: Bobby, John, Willie (Cripto), Charles, and Kenneth (Sunnyboy) Brevard, and one son, William Brevard.
Richard Brevard attended High Point City Schools and earned his high school diploma from Guilford Technical Community College. He started his career with the City of High Point before moving on to Myrtle Desk, where he advanced to the position of assistant plant manager after several years of supervising various departments. During his time at Myrtle Desk, he met the love of his life, Patricia (Pat). He later retired from Hayworth Wood Seating, where he enjoyed over 40 years in the furniture industry. After spending time on his couch, watching church services, conversing with Jesus, and being encouraged by his pastor, Rhoda Brevard, he became a devoted member and a pillar of Righteous in Christ Ministries. In June 2024, he was ordained as a Deacon, a role he took very seriously. He led devotion and testimony services, offering wisdom to the congregation. Additionally, he actively participated in Sunday School and mid-week Bible study sessions.
When he retired, Richard supervised his family and friends from the comfort of his couch. With a warm, relaxed smile, he would welcome visitors into his home, telling them he had worked hard that day. Meanwhile, he was nestled comfortably in the corner of his couch, watching westerns, sports, and his favorite television shows.
Richard was a friendly person who never met a stranger; he genuinely loved people. He loved his family and cherished every moment they spent at his home. With a playful spirit, he might jokingly call you a "crackhead," but he would willingly give you his last dime, clothes, or a plate of food to ensure you were taken care of. His legacy will continue to inspire us and live on in our hearts and minds, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Left to cherish his memories is his wife of forty-two years, Patricia Brevard, of the home. He is survived by seven children: Rogena (Ann) Brevard, Lisa Brevard, and Eddie Brevard of Winston Salem, Bobby Brevard, Richard Squires (Tavia) and Christopher Brevard of High Point, and Edward Squires (Phalandra) of Whiteville, NC; one brother, Samuel Brevard of Concord, NC; brothers-in-law, Terry Locklear (Linda) of Michigan and Larry Godwin of Henderson, NC; three sisters-in-laws, Rhoda Brevard and Verne (Sally) Brevard both of
High Point, NC, and Lauren Brevard of Maryland. In addition, he has 30 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, along with a host of nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, August 2, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Maranatha Fellowship Church, 1215 Eastchester Drive. Interment will follow at Guil-Rand Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and other times at the home, 509 Henry Place.
