Richard F. Brummel
Born: October 14, 1936 in Aurora, IL
Died: January 1, 2026 in Yorkville, IL
Richard F. Brummel, 89, of Yorkville, IL passed away peacefully in his home on January 1, 2026. The youngest of eight children, he was born October 14, 1936, to Leo J. and Gertrude Brummel of Naperville IL. Richard and Alice married in 1963 and shared 62 beautiful years of marriage, building a life together rooted in love and faith.
Richard grew up on a dairy farm in Naperville. Fond memories he often shared were of milking cows with his brother, Leo, sitting in the back of a pickup truck delivering milk to town and his beloved teddy bear with only one eye.
Richard and Alice lived on a farm in Naperville. Farming was his way of life and he, like all farmers, enjoyed sharing stories and farm updates at gatherings. Family gatherings always brightened his eyes and spirit. He enjoyed seeing the children and watching their antics. The kids would be fascinated by the realization he was missing part of two of his fingers! He endured water fights; he was the chief watermelon cutter at the Brummel Family Picnics and was known to share his Dentyne gum with an eager child. Being surrounded by family and sharing those special moments brought much happiness to him
In 1995, "progress" forced the happy couple to relocate from the Naperville farm, so they built a home in Yorkville. Though he would no longer be living on the farm, he proved you can take the man off of the farm, but you cannot take the farm out of the man! He continued to farm and enjoy going to the Farm Progress Days and traveling with the Farm Bureau. He and Alice also loved camping and traveling together with family and friends.
He custom-built seed cleaners for the Brummel Seed Cleaning business, some of these unique machines are still in operation today.
Before it became trendy, Rich had his own "man cave" where he could be found reading a book, watching the markets, doing book work, napping or drinking a Hamms beer. It was a place for his brothers, nephews and nieces alike to visit with him.
Rich was a man of strong faith and attended mass regularly. He was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus and served proudly and was well regarded by his fellow Knights.
Rich is survived by his wife, Alice Brummel of Yorkville, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his brothers and sisters and many of their spouses: Leo and Gert, Barbara and her husband, Richard Koretke, Mary and her husband, Robert Kammes, Henry and his wife, Margaret, Leo and his wife, Delores, Gregory "Nick", (Loretta, his wife, survives), Edwin and his wife Maryann, Robert, (Patricia, his wife, survives), and sister-in-law Dorothy Broz. Eight nieces and nephews preceded him in death and numerous nieces and nephews survive.
If you met him, you liked him. Many called him "Uncle Rich" even though they were not related. He was a great guy with an affable nature, easy to talk to, friendly and easy going. He will be missed!
