Richard T. "Rick" Burke Sr., 79, of Hanover, MA passed away peacefully December 28, 2024 after a lengthy illness. Rick was born in Charlestown and developed his strong work ethic at an early age shining shoes in the neighborhood. As a young man he enlisted in the Massachusetts National Guard. His proudest moment was participating in the Boston/Washington D.C. simultaneous twenty-one-gun salute in honor of President John F. Kennedy's funeral. He spent 40 years in the automobile business where he won various sales contests and awards.
Rick was the son of the late Francis and Anna Burke. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Karen of Hanover. He was the beloved father of Scott Burke and Bonnie Burke Amenda both of Spring Hill, FL, Karen Marie Burke of Hanover and the late Richard Burke, Jr. Also survived by grandchildren Caitlin Griffith of Florida and Scott Burke Jr. of Texas. He was the brother of Virginia Mason (late Donald) of Abington, the late Arlene O'Toole (late Francis), Jean Hill (late Robert) of California, Frances (Joseph) Leary of Middleboro, the late James Burke (Marie) of Brockton.
Rick was an avid Red Sox fan who enjoyed seeing games at Fenway Park and regularly traveled with his daughter Karen to see the Sox play on the road. His bucket list was to get to all the MLB stadiums, seeing 19 of 30.
Visiting hours will be held at Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington Street, RTE 53, Hanover, MA, on Friday, January 3rd from 4-7PM. Funeral home service will be held Saturday, January 4th at 10:00AM. Burial to follow at Hanover Center Cemetery.
