Richard was born on May 31, 1939 in Del Rio, Texas. He is survived by Richard Glenn Calk, Jr, Kenneth Dale Calk, Steven Wayne Calk and Dwayne Allen Calk.
As a young boy, he liked fixing up bicycles and then went on to gas powered scooters, one of which he rebuilt the scooter from the ground up with his dad, Elmer. His dad co-signed for his first new Cushman motor scooter that he used for his first job as a bag boy, and a delivery person at an Handy Andy. He loved working with his dad because they were a lot alike and could fix anything.
Then he went to work at Rigsby drive-in movie theater as a cook, from there his dad moved to Austin and he would ride a scooter to Austin and back to San Antonio on the weekends, and during the week they worked together at an automotive shop. They did this for six months in 1956.
Then the same year he went straight into the Navy for four years. The first year he was a fire fighter for the crash crew at the Naval base. The following three years he studied and received training as an electrical engineer and sheet-metal worker on navy aircraft, and went on to receive a honorable discharge from the Navy and continued applying his knowledge and skills at the San Antonio international airport we're his main job was fabricating instrument panels for a wide variety of airplanes.
Everyone who knew Richard was, and still are amazed of how creative and inventive he was. He could re-purpose, scrap wood, metals, and plastics into beautiful and useful items, and/or artwork. He always seemed to have a solution for every problem he came across. Richard was a true visionary.
When he wasn't tinkering in the garage, he enjoyed collecting guns and restoring guns that preserved our American heritage. He enjoyed the history of guns as much as the guns them self. Richard Glenn Calk was a true American patriot and loved his country very deeply, and he will be dearly missed by many of his friends and loved ones.
