Dr. Richard Lucien Clardy

Augusta - Entered into rest on Sunday, February 22, 2026, Dr. Richard Lucien Clardy, 90. Loving husband of 67 years to Suzanne McWilliams Clardy, who preceded him in death on July 25, 2023.

Richard or "Dick" as he was known, was born in Clarksville, Tennessee on September 13, 1935. He was a graduate of Clarksville High School and then attended Austin Peay State University where he met Suzanne and played football for the Governors. He attended dental school at the University of Tennessee in Memphis and graduated March of 1960 with a DDS degree. He was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society. Dick and Suzanne welcomed their first child, Rick in April of 1961. Dick was a member of the faculty for the College of Dentistry at UT and also attained a Master of Sciences degree in Orthodontics in 1962. From there Dick served in the United States Army as Captain in Dental Corps and was stationed at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio,Texas and then Fort Benning, Georgia. In March of 1964 they welcomed daughter Lisa to the family. In June of 1964 the family moved to Augusta, Georgia where Dick opened a private practice of Orthodontics. He served as a part-time member of the Faculty of the Medical College of Georgia, School of Dentistry and Orthodontics for approximately 15 years. He was a member of A.D.A., A.A.O.,Begg Orthodontic Society, S.S.O.,G.D.A., and the Augusta Dental society. Dick was a long standing member of Trinity on the Hill Methodist Church, as well as The Augusta Country Club, and Augusta Golf Association.

Family members include children Dr Rick Clardy (Wendy), Lisa Clardy Rushworth (Jim); grandchildren: Rachel Clardy, Will Clardy, Dr. Parker Rushworth (Sonja), Cole Rushworth (Bridget), Josh Rushworth and 2 great grandchildren: Everett James Rushworth and Celine Suzanne Rushworth. He has 2 brothers: Jim Clardy and Wayne Clardy. He was preceded in death by his parents: John Lucien Clardy and Margaret Shelby Clardy

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Reverend Roy McVeigh officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
