Richard P. Cofoni

WESTERLY - Richard P. 'Dick' Cofoni, 88, beloved husband for 60 years of Sandra (Boumenot) Cofoni, of Gull Terrace, Westerly, passed away after a brief illness at the age of 88, at the Westerly Hospital on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.

Born in Westerly, he was the son of the late James and Millie Cofoni.

Dick owned and operated Redstone Tire in Westerly for over 50 years and was a parishioner of St. Clare Church. He was a longtime member of the Watch Hill Beach Club, a longtime member of the Westerly Lions Club, and the Westerly Yacht Club.

In addition to his loving wife Sandra, he leaves behind three children, Paula Cofoni (Julia), Kristen Wood (Doug) and Peter J. Cofoni; a brother, Ret. Col. Peter Cofoni (Danielle); two cherished grandchildren, Nico Paldan and Charlie Cofoni; and a great-granddaughter, Estelle.

Dick graduated from Immaculate Conception School and Westerly High School where he met many of his lifelong friends. He loved to travel with friends and family, especially to Italy, and he loved his relationship with his many cousins, especially his cousins in Italy.

Most of all Dick enjoyed being around his family especially for Sunday dinner. He was unarguably a sharp dressed man, an avid reader, and by far the most interesting person in the room who was always happy to greet you with a smile and a drink.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4pm - 7pm at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Wednesday at St. Clare Church, 62 Crandall Ave., Westerly. Interment will follow at St. Sebastian Cemetery, Westerly.
