Richard Collis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mountain View Funeral Home & Cemetery on Mar. 13, 2026.
Richard Edward "Dick" Collis, 81, passed away on February 7, 2026, in Mesa, Arizona.

Born on March 26, 1944, in La Porte, Indiana, Dick was the son of Thomas Paul Collis and Virginia Humphrey Collis.

In the 1960's, Dick proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps 3rd Marine Division. His time in the military left a lasting impression on him, and he remained deeply patriotic throughout his life. He was a dedicated member and past president of the Scottish-American Military Society Post 48. He was actively involved in numerous groups serving active and veteran military members and found great camaraderie among fellow servicemen.

Following his military service, Dick built a long and steady career as a truck driver for ICX and Yellow Freight and continued his contributions as a Union Representative for the Teamsters.

Outside of work, Dick enjoyed time outdoors in beautiful Arizona camping with his wife Mary Kay and friends. He was an avid fisherman and found great peace and joy with his favorite pastime. Whether casting a line at dawn or swapping stories with fellow anglers in the Arizona Bass Club, he cherished time spent outdoors camping and fishing in Arizona.

Dick was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Kay Collis; his parents; and siblings Donald Collis, Cloyd Allen Collis, Renee Collis and Jimmy Collis.

He is survived by his sister Sharon Bowland (Melvin "Jim") and brother Loren Thomas (Sandy), along with many nieces and nephews.

Commitment Services at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona will be held on March 25 at 2 p.m. Afterward, there will be an open house at American Legion Post 107, located at 20001 N. Cave Creek Rd, Phoenix, AZ. The open house will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. It will provide an informal setting for friends and family to gather, enjoy Dick's favorite sweet treats, share memories and honor the life of our friend and the legacy he leaves behind.
