In Loving Memory of Richard G. Cooke, beloved brother, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2024, following a brief but courageous battle with cancer. He was 72 years old.
Richard was born in Astoria, New York with a passion for the outdoors. If he had to be indoors, he found solace and inspiration in the power of music, using its melodies to transport him to different places and times. Specifically, you would find him listening to the Beatles, James Taylor, and George Harrison. He spent his youth playing football, semi-pro baseball and basketball, leaving a lasting impression on all who watched him play. His athleticism was matched only by his incredible memory for dates, songs and sports statistics, earning him admiration and respect from friends and family alike. When not outside playing sports he would be gardening, planting flowers and vegetables.
Richard was retired from the Port Authority of New York as a maintenance Group Foreman. His greatest joy and accomplishment however, was found in being a devoted "Pops" to his two grandsons, whom he cherished beyond measure. His love for them knew no bounds, and he created countless memories that will forever live on in their hearts.
His absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his brothers and their wives George, Laraine, Ken and Debbie Cooke; his daughter and her husband, Sarah and David Hall; and finally his treasured grandsons, Ian and Sean Hall, who will carry his memory in their hearts always.
A brief service for Richard will be held on May 18, 2024 at Edgewood Cemetery at noon followed by a celebration of life at Sarah and David's home from 2-4pm. In lieu of traditional flowers, the family kindly requests that plants from House by the Side of the Road in Wilton NH be purchased for the family to enjoy for a longer time. (Jen 603-654-9888)
Though he may be gone from our sight, Richard's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the beauty of the flowers and music that brought him joy and comfort always.
With love and fond memories, Sarah and Family
