Kawkawlin, MI
Richard Jerome DeShano passed away on May 15th, 2023 at Bay Medical Care Facility. He was born on May 11th 1934 to Francis and Lawrence DeShano and was raised on the family farm in Kawkawlin, Michigan in Beaver Township. He was the oldest of four boys, followed by William, Melvin (proceeded in death), and Kenneth.
Richard served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. His service included training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO and an overseas station in Germany. He then worked at Dow Chemical for thirty years.
He is remembered for his reading and gift of gab over the daily newspaper, feeding his "feathered friends" on the family farm, and his love of classic cars. He was also an avid Detroit Tigers fan.
Richard is survived by his wife Barbara Ann DeShano, and his four children Alan, Deborah (Tim), Jeffrey (Mia), and Daryl (Leslie). He had nine grandchildren: Charity Schmidt; Kyle DeShano; Jordan Roth; Geoffrey DeShano; Deanna DeShano; Cameron Roth; Kelsey DeShano; Noah DeShano; and Hunter DeShano. He is also survived by his brother William and sister in-law Margaret, sister in-law Berneda (wife of Melvin), brother Kenneth and sister in-law Darlene and Norma DeShano, wife of his best friend Jerry DeShano (proceeded in death), as well as many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Richard's life will take place in July, when all of his family can be united together on the family farm.
