Richard Desilets Obituary

Richard Henri Desilets, 74, of Terrace Drive passed away on May 23, 2023 at home. He was the husband of Verna (McKenna) Desilets.

Born in Danielson, CT, he was the son of the late Florent and Irene (Cloutier) Desilets. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Richard H. Desilets Jr of Cumberland; Daniel M. Desilets and his wife Stephanie of Dighton, MA; and Tara Lynn Desilets of Bristol. He was the grandfather of Daniel E. Desilets and Michaela Desilets and brother of Robert (Donna) Desilets and the late Anne Scallin.

Mr. Desilets was a graduate of Barrington High School and received his Bachelor's Degree from URI. His parents were the original founders of the Desilets Nursing Home where Richard worked for decades as the nursing home administrator.

Richard's faith sustained him throughout his life. He trusted and accepted God's will and lived accordingly. As a lifelong musician and vocalist, Rick shared his talents in many venues including his first group called the Ascots (70's), Midnight Sun and Dusty Grey (80's), the Classifieds (90's) and lastly as a member of our Lady of Mount Carmel Church choir. He was inducted into the RI Music Hall of Fame 2015 and was an avid sports fan. His greatest joy came from his devotion to his family most especially his grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held, Saturday, June 3rd, 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 141 State Street, Bristol with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: HopeHealth Hospice, 1085 North Main Street, Providence RI 02904.

My favorite memory of Ricky -driving me, his brother Bobby and some other Barrington Boys Choir members to rehearsal. We were listening to the radio and The Partridge Family came on with `I think I love you´, and us young´uns started to sing along. Rick just shook his head in disgust at such bubble-gum music, but he was a good guy and let us finish the song. I´m so sorry to hear of his passing.

My sincerest condolences to Rick's family and to all those who were closest to him.
Rick and I were band mates in The Ascots, along with Pete Mayhew, Mark Vinbury and my brother Vin Medbury. Many of our original rehearsals were in the basement of Rick's parents' house and I remember Rick's Mom as being very supportive of the band in it's earliest stages. Having been in the Barrington Boys Choir, Rick was a natural choice for lead singer. The band went on to having incredible experiences, including being taken to New York City to record our 45 rpm records. We knew all of the local radio D.J.'s. We opened for many major acts including The Who, Herman's Hermits, The Young Rascals and The Beach Boys. We were all having a blast, enjoying our small time celebrity and dreaming of the Big Time! In 2015, we had the honor of being inducted into the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame and actually performed for many of our old fans who showed up to cheer us on. Rock on, my friend. You are sorely missed.

My condolences to the Desilets family.
I grew up with Rick in Barrington, spending countless hours in his backyard at Maxfield Court playing pitch and catch. He was the catcher, I the pitcher, dreams of the Red Sox playing out on the lawn. He was a good friend and a hood man. He will be missed.
