Peterseim Funeral Home - KalonaRichard (Dick) Lee Bartley Jr., 71, peacefully passed away February 17, 2026, surrounded by his family at the Pleasantview Nursing Home in Kalona, Iowa. Born March 6, 1954 in Seattle, WA. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Catherine Bartley of Kalona, IA, one sister Jamie Bartley of Peoria, IL, his 4 children, Dean Bruner of Peoria, IL, Jodi (Bryan) Hanson of Kalona, IA, Joshua (Kelly) Bruner of Taylorville, IL, and Jessica (Derek) Shook of Davenport, IA, 10 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Richard Lee Bartley, and his mother Betty Jean Bartley.
Dick was always the life of the party; in his early years, he was in a band. He loved music, and singing and playing guitar throughout his whole life. Dick found faith in God, and he dedicated his life to serving Jehovah God, and was baptized in 1985. His faith led him to find the love of his life, Cathy, and they were married on September 13th, 1985. Dick worked at the Mitsubishi Plant in Normal, IL for many years. He then went on to pursue an associate’s degree in applied science, which he achieved in 2005. He then moved to Iowa and had a brief career in phlebotomy, and then worked in a lab, at Iowa Renewable Energy for 11 years. Dick never met a stranger; he loved everyone, and loved making people laugh, he loved woodworking, and making furniture, and loved spending time in his science lab looking at things under his microscope. But most of all he loved talking to people about his faith in Jehovah God, which he did every chance he got, throughout his whole life until the end. A memorial service will be held on March 7, 2026, at 2pm, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 3801 Hillandale Rd., Davenport, IA 52806. A Zoom option will also be available, reception to follow. Many thanks to Pleasantview Nursing Home in Kalona, Iowa, and Iowa City Hospice for their kind and compassionate care of our loved one. Any donations may be made to the West Davenport congregation at JW.org
