Peterseim Funeral Home - KalonaSusie J. (Schlabach) Yoder Hostetler, 94, passed from this life on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at the Washington County Hospital following a brief illness. A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 23, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Sunnyside Mennonite Church in Kalona. The service will be available via Livestream on the Sunnyside Mennonite Church Kalona YouTube page. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 9:30 – 10:45 AM at the church before the service. A memorial fund has been established for Sunnyside Mennonite Church and Pleasantview Home. The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Susie was born on April 7, 1931, the daughter of Noah D. and Bertha (Miller) Schlabach. On June 15, 1952, she was united in marriage to Delmar Glen Yoder for 50 years, who passed on January 18, 2003. Then, on January 1, 2005, she was united in marriage to Edwin R. Hostetler. She was baptized in her youth and was a member of Sunnyside Mennonite Church. Susie had a servant’s heart and served on various committees. She also taught Sunday school and Bible school. Susie loved to cook and sew, making many quilts and comforters for missions or wherever they were needed. She worked at the Kalonial Townhouse for 20 years. Upon retiring, she spent time reading and putting puzzles together for the crowded closet.
Survivors include her seven step-children: Lynn (Janice) Hostetler, Keith Hostetler, Merle (Mary) Hostetler, Jeryl (Jill) Hostetler, Ryan (Anita) Hostetler, Joy Hostetler, and Sheryl Moreland; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; one brother Perry Schlabach; nieces: Linda Tones, Lou Ann Miller, Kathy Schlabach and Jane (Hershberger) Widmer; nephews: Larry Schlabach, Roger Schlabach, Leon Schlabach and Lowell Yoder.
Preceding Susie in death were her parents, her husband Delmar Yoder, her husband Edwin Hostetler, stepson-in-law Frank Moreland, three sisters: Barbara, Bertha, and Leona Schlabach, three brothers: Raymond, John, and Isaiah Schlabach, and her nephew Royce Schlabach.
