Richard “Dick” Lee Jepsen was born on May 27, 1948, in Schleswig, Iowa, the son of Fred and Irene (Meggers) Jepsen. He was baptized on October 3, 1948, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Soldier Township, and later confirmed his faith at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison on April 7, 1963. Dick attended school in Denison and graduated with the Class of 1966.
In June of 1967, he enlisted in the Iowa Army National Guard, proudly serving his country until his honorable discharge. On February 8, 1969, Dick was united in marriage to Ann Michael at Zion Lutheran Church in Magnolia, Iowa. They were blessed with two daughters, Tina and Tammy, and later divorced. Dick later found love and companionship with Ruth Burk, with whom he shared many happy years.
Throughout his career, Dick worked for the Iowa DOT before beginning a long career at Farmland Foods, where he retired after 43 years of dedicated service. While at Farmland, he also served as a Union Representative, advocating for his coworkers.
Dick was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling, and playing cards with family and friends. Dick loved cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes and Kansas City Chiefs. He also liked visiting casinos and could often be found helping out at his son-in-law, Todd’s body and repair shop. More than anything, Dick treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were his greatest joy.
Dick passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at his home in Denison at the age of 77 years, three months and six days. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Beverly Ellen Jepsen; infant brother, Curtis Jepsen; and brother-in-law, Fred Bachman.
