Mr. Richard E. Dix, of Waltham, died unexpectedly at home on Saturday, January 8, 2022. He was 73. Richard was born on April 11, 1948 in Stoneham, the son of the late Lester A. and Nina E. (Chipchase) Dix. He was a graduate of Melrose High School and honorably served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Army. Rich worked as a central office technician for Verizon Communications for many years, retiring in 2012. Prior to that, he was a long time employee for Duracell Corporation. He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed playing, learning and reading about it. He especially enjoyed trivia and various online trivia sites, as well as online games such as Jeopardy and Sporcle. Rich was a frequent volunteer at the Greater Boston Food Bank. His greatest love was traveling, especially on cruise lines. Rich leaves his siblings, Lester A. Dix (Tanya) of Evansville, Indiana, Robert A. Dix (Bonnie) of Rochester, New Hampshire, Nancy E. Hartman (Freeman) of Bellville, Illinois and David A. Dix (Robin) of Londonderry, New Hampshire; also survived by nieces & nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews. Family and friends will honor and remember Richard's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, January 16th from 2- 4 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 4 p.m. Burial in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne is private. Memorials in his name to the Greater Boston Food Bank, 70 S Bay Ave, Boston, MA 02118 (www.gbfb.org) are appreciated.

I worked with Rick for many years and he was a great worker and a friend. We took a boat cruise together and had a great time. I'll miss him.

Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served with the U.S. Armed Forces during the Cold War. Millions of Americans slept safe at night because you and your fellow Servicemen stood ready to defend our Country. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
